Best of the Bunch #December 2011

It's that time of the month again: to decide which of all the books I read in December was the Best of the Bunch.

And the winner of the Best of the Bunch Award December 2011 is...

*dramatic pause*

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Suzanne Collins continues the amazing story of Katniss Everdeen in Catching Fire, the second novel of the phenomenal Hunger Games trilogy.

Well, it had to be, didn't it? I'm relatively new to the Hunger Games trilogy - I haven't read Mockingjay yet - but this month this was definitely the book that took my breath away. I don't know how she does it, but Suzanne Collins just has a way of burying her characters deep into your skin such that I just can't get enough of these books. Although at first I was slightly irritated by a re-hashed plot, I had a major revelation about halfway through that has now got me singing its praises from the rooftops! Read my full review here for more.

Congratulations Suzanne Collins!

  1. Yeah, I really liked this one, even better than the first book. Congrats it!

  2. I love the Hunger Games series! I hope you like Mockingjay as well- it starts to get even darker (if you can believe it).

  3. Definitely a worthy favorite! I already commented on your review, but this was such an excellent followup to the first installment. I hope Mockingjay is a great reading experience for you, too.

  4. Hi Lyrical, I just tried emailing you,

I was sorry to see that you are taking a break from blogging but I completely understand your reasons, and know what it's like to feel under pressure to write something for the blog.

The reason I'm writing to you is to ask if you mind if I kept up your meme Best of the Bunch. It's something that I always enjoyed doing, and unlike some of the weekly memes, was something that I felt was more manageable, and it was interesting to visit other blogs and get some recommendations and see people's comparison of books. I think it is such a good idea, and I wanted to ask if it would be okay to keep it up, and for me to take over the reins and host it starting from February?
If you say yes, I also wanted to ask if it would be okay if I carry on using your banana pictures, and to modify the button a little. But I completely understand if you don't like the idea- I know you put a lot of work and thought into it.

Let me know what you think anyway,
